Intro

For some time already I noticed the presence of this ghost or <0w#25> folder which is annoying. Anyway, fixing it is pretty easy.

About the System

  • Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
  • Microsoft Outlook 2016
  • Gmail Account (IMAP)

Didn’t worked

Few solutions I’ve found on Google.

  • Disabling different addons (such as Kaspersky, Teamviewer, OneNote etc)
  • Running SCANPST.EXE
  • Running Outlook in Safe Mode
  • Different freeware solutions

Worked

Renaming .ost file fixed the problem.

  1. Close Outlook
  2. Press WIN + R

  3. Type or Copy/Paste 

    1
    %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

  4. Make sure File name extensions is checked
    <0w#25> Folder

  5. Rename the .ost file in something else (ex. .ost_)
  6. Open Outlook (it will take longer than usual)
  7. Repeat the above if you have multiple accounts
